Trade is an unincorporated community comprised of mostly rural farmland. The agricultural products are tobacco, grain and cattle. Trade is located in Johnson County, Tennessee. The county population is 16,736.
One of the first signs of spring in the mountains is flowering trees and shrubs.
Although Trade is very rural, it is close to many commercial and cultural attractions. Mountain City, TN is the closest town. The citizens of Mountain City love the small town life. The closest city is Boone, NC. Boone is home to Appalachian State University, known for its highly acclaimed Department of Education. The university attracts a wide variety of businesses. Also located in Boone is Samaritan’s Purse, an organization committed to helping people all over the world through Operation Christmas Child and World Medical Missions. There are four major ski resorts in the area - Beech Mountain, Appalachian, Sugar Loaf, and Hawk’s Nest. Tweetsy Railroad and the Blowing Rock are major tourist attractions during the warm months. Additionally, thousands come to our area annually to view the dramatic and colorful fall foliage. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just a short drive from Trade as is the Appalachian Trail.
We are located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains and the average elevation is over 3000 feet. Favorite pastimes include hiking through wonderful scenery, riding horses on the many trails, snow skiing the graceful slopes, water skiing and boating on beautiful Watauga Lake.
