Trade Days began in 1989 as a means to develop a community center and park for area residents. Trade Days celebrates our northeast Tennessee culture. Arts, crafts, and exhibits represent the best of Appalachian life, both past and present. Fourteen years later it is growing and expanding to make the festival more interesting for residents and visitors alike. Profits from the festival go to improve and expand the Trade Community Center and Park.
Today, the festival lasts for three days. As one committee member said, “Trade Days doesn’t just happen for the three days in June.”It takes a lot of time and effort to make Trade Days happen. Committee members and the president, Doug McFadden, work year round planning a variety of events to raise money for the Community Center and Park. Other times the Trade Days Committee donates time and money for local service projects.
Over the past year, proceeds from Trade Days financed new playground items and new bathrooms. During the spring, we were also able to have a new bridge built so entertainers could enter and park close to the stage!
Trade Days was also involved in:
- The Relay for Life,
- fund raisers for those in our community who are in need,
- a yard sale to raise funds for the Community Center,
- a Christmas dinner for seniors in Trade,
- and many others.
Trade is the oldest community in Tennessee. A trading post was established here for Native Americans and pioneers to have a place to buy and sell their wares. Trade is a small community, and a wonderful place to live!
